LOFT CONVERSIONS
We offer a variety of types of loft conversion
including:
Dormer

obligation quotation.
The best style of loft
conversion for properties with
limited headroom in the
existing roof space. Additional
space is created by extending
the walls a short way up through the roof
(usually only on one side) which allows the
creation of a flat ceiling inside. A construction of
this type can be very versatile and allows for
options such as, say, the creation of an en-suite
bathroom.
Velux
It does not require extensive
alterations to the roof
because the installed Velux windows fit flush
with the line of the roof, leaving the structure of
the existing roof untouched. Advantages of this
option are that the roof does not need major
work which keeps the cost of the conversion
down and planning permission is not usually
required.
You may need to check with your local planning
authority to get the rules about installing dormer
windows for your area.
Where there is a good amount
of headroom, a Velux type loft
conversion is a good option.
Mansard
The new roof is usually created by building up
the party or gable walls on either side of your
house to form the profile for the mansard
followed by the building of a timber frame.
Mansard loft conversions are very likely to
require planning permission.
Mansard roofs have two
slopes, one close to vertical
(72 degrees) and the top one
almost horizontal. A mansard
roof conversion takes
maximum advantage of the available space in
your loft.
Hip to Gable
The new gable wall can be
built either in masonry or studwork and finished
with options such as matching brickwork,
blockwork, rendering or tiling. Hip to gable
conversions change the outline of the roof and
so planning permission may be required. After
the roof has been extended, a Velux rooflight or
dormer can be installed to complete the
conversion.
A hip to gable loft conversion
requires the building up of the
gable wall and building a new
section of roof to fill the gap.
